It was the turn of our younger athletes to take to the track and field of the top-class Athlone indoor arena on Sunday the 11th of February. This was the first time competing inside the arena for many of these athletes and they did the club proud.

This was the club’s biggest entry in a long time, and it was great to see 8 relay teams between the 2 days.

The primary goals for all the younger athletes were to gain competition experience, have fun and make friends.

Noah Brady

The main highlights of the day included seeing Noah Brady follow in the footsteps of Irish International Athlete Liam Shaw and continuing an Athenry tradition in the Shot putt to take gold in the U12 boys. Noah also medalled in Long jump and 60m. Charlie Flannery was back in action on day 2 and took silver in the U12 600m.

This was the first competition for most of our younger athletes, with many of them finishing in the top ten of their events which is no mean feat with the sizeable entry lists.

We had so many athletes winning their heats and come close to medalling showing the level of talent in the club. Some of examples were:

U10 Girls 60m Indoor: 4th Bonnie Broderick (10.46) 1/100th of a second off 3rd!

U10 Boys 400m Indoor: 8th Bradley Healy (1:25.63)

U11 Boys Long Jump Indoor: 5th Cian Casserly (3.09)

U11 Boys 600m Indoor: 5th Eoghan Shryane (2:01.96)

U12 Girls 60m Indoor: 4th Eva Carroll (9.54)

U12 Boys Long Jump Indoor: 9th Charlie Flannery (3.46)

U12 Boys 60m Hurdles Indoor (0.686m): 9th Owen Gannon (13.28)

U9 Girls 4×200 Relay: 8th Athenry Relay Female Under 9 A (3:07.73)

U10 Boys 4×200 Relay: 6th Athenry Relay Male Under 10 A (2:36.90)

U10 Girls 4×200 Relay: 8th Athenry Relay Female Under 10 A (2:48.47)

U12 Boys 4×200 Relay: 5th Athenry Relay Male Under 12 A (2:10.94)

U12 Girls 4×200 Relay: 4th Athenry Relay Female Under 12 A (2:17.76)
